Peter had sent me a board with Vaseline on it before and told me I didn't need to insulate it for LN2. I didn't like the mess so I cleaned it and used eraser.
Well I got tired of fooling with the eraser and decided to go back to the "Chicken Man" style of insulation. I got a tube of jelly and squirted it on and then used the brush and hair dryer to spread it. After four hours of none stop LN2 benching I had not one hick-up. I am looking forward to many more happy hours of trouble free.
BTW - I kept bugging Lardy and asking him how he put the Vaseline on the board and he said he use a brush like when you put BBQ sauce on the chicken. Lardy is so funny.

after I melted the jelly you can't even see it, but it there.

I put down a 1/8" thick piece of armaflex and added more jelly.

After the Vaseline I used 1/2" armaflex and then paper towels.

So messy, I couldn't bring myself to do that to a board :baffled: Good to hear it worked for you though, that is all that matters.

The one thing that has always concerned my little premature engineering mind is the concept of DE grease plausibly creating parasitic capacitance at the CPU pins, especially with such enormous power dissipation and transience at the CPU.

I just simply don't know enough to eliminate that as possible or potentially harmful.

Anyone ever use liquid electrical tape as a first layer? I used it on my REX and it worked beautifully. Wipe on a few thick layers then put down eraser and foam. It cleans up really easy (usually peels off in a few big pieces). Only takes 5 mins to dry so its quick setup. It totally water proof also and didnt crack or become brittle under cold.

Yah, it was my "Getting feet wet" party with sub-zero a lil while back. I moved over to electric tape spray, much better!

Heres a few old pics:

Is there a way to get the vaseline off afterwards?

And wouldnt it be better to put a thin layer of eraser on after the initial layer of vaseline?

Eraser won't stick down very well with vaseline on the board.

Kalel, does that black colored thingie come off easy afterwards?

i just use Dialectric grease in the socket and around it, and then with armaflex and neopreen.
that works for me.

the back of the motherboard i spray acrylic compound spray.

Electric Tape Spray. It peels off in patches pretty easy but I think if you lay it on thicker it should peel off easier. Little pieces get stuck in the resistors and such on the mobo and need more time dedicated to picking them off the mobo. It could get tedious but I've never had to clean up these boards for rma.

Ran like this on the 680i, 790i ultra sli, 790i digital FTW and quite possilby soon the E759-x58 (Maybe).

Kneeded eraser seems the way to go if you're worried about rma.

I honestly hate kneeded eraser, so im looking for an alternative....

im still worried about RMA though if its a new board. (ive been through a couple classys and im tired of shelling out the dough)

I guess ill try some liquid electrical tape next time then some kneaded eraser over that.

I have used wax before and that works really well, but its hard to remove.

Vaseline will clean off easily with acetone. Just put some acetone in a spray bottle and tip mobo and spray. I have been benching sub-zero with this board ever since I put up this guide. I haven't had one bit of trouble with moisture. For me it was well worth it. As far as mess goes, the only thing I do that even gets me close to the Vaseline is change out cpus  Just keep your hands off the Vaseline.
I'm not suggesting anyone else do this. "It's your thing - do what you wanna do" p:p

My first choice. No mess, and it ends up being transparent to the point where it's hard to tell that there's anything on the board at all.

eraser and vaseline together is a bad idea

either method works fine

i prefer eraser myself....its perfect and not messy but i do use grease as well in combination for memory/PCIe slots etc

Go a bit colder, many Classified have a certain range in which they wil not boot (mine from -60 to -90) from -91 everything is fine again until cbb for chip :D

i,d love to go colder but im on cascade -103c ish it works below -80 (boot to bios) but not above -80 once ive set the ram strap and voltages then boot its fine all the way down to -103
none of the extreme cooling modes make any diffrence :(

spose im gona hve to put up with it :)
i do like booting at 35x 140bclk with 1.48v tho :)

any who im off topic so i,ll go back to me hole :)

I also got this problem, but i got it even lower it think.
Was using dryice, restart the whole system, but it wouldn't start. Didn't cross my mind i will meet a coldbug so early. Didn't have any tempmeter last time, so no exact number.

I've been using the Vasoline method for quite some time now. The only thing I do different is apply heat from a hair dryer to soften the vasoline in the socket when changing out CPU's. and I agree, use surgical gloves when applying. you don't want contaminates in the socket from your fingers. My classy has been runing 24/7 # 4.5ghz since March 2009. The only time I turn it off is for maintence\dust removal. Can't wait to use the Gulf's in this one. Anyone can tell me the different QXXX of the Core i9's, and which ones will work on a EVGA 759 classified mobo?
