latest M5F BIOS 0095:
http://www.mediafire.com/?z8o2jb7jtzvtnit
Updates Performance table
Adds IGPU Disable option in SA
Adds 'Ignore' option under BCLK Recovery , Ignore = Disabled + BIOS ignores to resume BCLK to BIOS setting during resets so that BCLK adjustments with OCKEY/TurboV does not trigger a full reset @ resets.
ln2 mode enable + extreme ov enable gives 2.4vcore (2.4vcore is a cpu killa, i would not try that) / 2.4vdimm max (do also note that cpus tend to like only high vdimm like 2v when cold. Sometimes high vdimm likes higher VTTDDR)
http://postimage.org/image/7e1rdoknh/
IMC dram offset is the amount of dram voltage the imc sees (not the real dram voltage). it wiull affect stabiluty specially superpi and auto usually works well but for last mhz stability u can go up or down 1 or 2 notches and test the diff.
To run everything frozen the whole day:
With Ivy benching the whole board gets so cold especially with CPU and DRAM on LN2 so some guys may like some pointers in insulation. Here’s my way of doing it:
First remove all heatsinks, cover the whole front and back of board with Vaseline:
http://www.freeimagehosting.net/t/4b2vh.jpg (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/4b2vh)
Slightly trickier part comes with regards to the DIMM slots. Brush a decent amount onto them:
http://www.freeimagehosting.net/t/fb585.jpg (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/fb585)
Use a hairdryer and melt all on the slots so that you are left with a thin coat in them:
http://www.freeimagehosting.net/t/x2ez6.jpg (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/x2ez6)
You should be left with something like this
http://www.freeimagehosting.net/t/zol9u.jpg (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/zol9u)
Next are the rams. It is better if you can remove heat-spreaders and spread Vaseline directly. If unable or you don’t wish to, you can brush on decent amount at the openings and gold fingers:
http://www.freeimagehosting.net/t/cf187.jpg (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/cf187)
And then same thing use a hairdryer and melt it all so that it flows into the cracks and crevices.
Before mounting on the rams, wipe off Vaseline from gold fingers of rams with your fingers.
Then cover / stuff the whole board, at the back and the front, with paper towels so that it looks like garbage trash:
http://www.freeimagehosting.net/t/1e6kf.jpg (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/1e6kf)
http://www.freeimagehosting.net/t/sgh6p.jpg (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/sgh6p)
http://www.freeimagehosting.net/t/sbjj5.jpg (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/sbjj5)
http://www.freeimagehosting.net/t/8pm2g.jpg (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/8pm2g)
Finally mount on your ram pot
http://www.freeimagehosting.net/t/m7epm.jpg (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/m7epm)
Keep a hairdryer handy nearby, if rams get too cold and stuck at ‘55’ even with safe ‘OC Failed’ mode (always use the 4 second power down to trigger a recovery rather than other methods), remove ram pot and heat rams, pressing reset repeatedly till ‘55’ goes away. Then put ram pot back on.
When pushing PCIE clocks (ie. BCLK) in Multi Card config, as long as BCLK is smaller than 113MHz, it may be best to set Gen 3 Preset under System Agent to Preset 3, whether in Gen 2.0 or 3.0:

I tried to stay around -40c at first but would BSOD during waza, went to -55 and a little time at -60c when I got excited during run but completed. Probe was positioned on outside side of mem sink about 1/2 inch in so that is was reading the warmest part, middle was probably more like -60c all the time.

lol yeah let's collect boot-codes of dead CPUs...
"00" - everybody that pushed several IVY to past 1.9V will know...completely DEAD
"b7" - I think I had one, killed by 1.9 iirc
"62" - my new 218 cherry girl not wanting 1.84V on pifast...
...always something new and YES IVY SUCKS...they die much much faster than any chips we had before...22nm is commanding it's tribute...
€: oh and to get on topic somehow: got my MVF laying at home, having some business to do on week-end (work sux) but already shaved off 10s from my 32m time with just a night testing...still 5s missing but mem-presettings seem to have improved a bit or am I wrong and they are the same on MVG and MVF?
spent a lot more time with third timings and that stuff, still it seemed to be a tad faster out of the box...I already like it, still I want the Extreme-Board for propper monitoring (RC Diagram with real time monitoring only on Extreme-Boards? Liked it on my MIVE with Ivy!)

Does 3x 580 actually work on this board? manual only says something about 3x CFX but only 2x SLI...
...and I can't get 3 ASUS 580 GTX working on this board with any drivers...SLI is perfect with all - dafuq nvidia drivers (285, 295, 301 WHQWERTZ tested...)?

I have some cold bug issues with that board with a tested cpu at gene with no problems benching full pot -190.
With formula I have cold bug at -145 trying any possible setting with no difference. I think that is IMC related problem because I get post code 55 and after post code 00 and lower temps everything is ok.

Any suggestions?

Not any improovement this is for sure a mobo problem. CBB of cpus depends on bclock. With this board and 108 bclock CBB was exactly same with CB around -165 with both my cpus. tried very low vccsa / vccio?
I had some issues past 1.1V on 1 or 2 chips (starting to struggle when raising the voltages) but 1.0(2)5 vccsa and 1.075 io was fine for them.
not that good when you want to push mem but just out of interest if it runs fullpot.
I had so many CPUs now and not a single one refused fullpot once it was running. Either very golden hand with IB or the only one running such low imc voltages :p

With Ivy benching the whole board gets so cold especially with CPU and DRAM on LN2 so some guys may like some pointers in insulation. Here’s my way of doing it:
First remove all heatsinks, cover the whole front and back of board with Vaseline:

Keep a hairdryer handy nearby, if rams get too cold and stuck at ‘55’ even with safe ‘OC Failed’ mode (always use the 4 second power down to trigger a recovery rather than other methods), remove ram pot and heat rams, pressing reset repeatedly till ‘55’ goes away. Then put ram pot back on.

thanks for the tip

That is the next step it seems. Pretty sure I've got a Crucial laying around to try.
What's frustrating is that XP and 7 both installed on this same model SSD without a hiccup.
It this a normal retail vista or shredded one?

Anyone know the trick to installing Vista on Z77 ? No matter what, once the "loading files" bar reaches 100% I get BSOD 0x0000007E This is with default and optimized default settings. I'm thinking it has to be something set in the BIOS
Wild guess here: your Vista installation doesn't have the drivers for the sata port your drive is connected to?

Full blown install, the OS image is from my TechNet account.

It does the same from all the SATA ports on the board (MVE)
Also tried on my Crucial C300, same thing.

as this is my first ASUS/ROG board, I'm a little unfamiliar with the tweaking softwares available for benching. With gigabyte boards we use Gigabyte Tweak Launcher, EVGA uses E-LEET Tuner, etc.
After you guys boot into windows and pull down your temps, do you use Turbo V Evo for tweaking, or do most people prefer to use the ROG Connect feature with a laptop/second computer? ROG Connect seems like a good option as it wont use up any resources on the benching rig...
thoughts?

yeah i ended up using rog connect to bench yesterday.. it went very smoothly. i really like it.
However, I'm having trouble getting BCLK to adjust.. when i hit "apply" it changes in ROG Connect (on remote PC), but not on the benching rig (host PC). This is using XP.
I tried it today on windows 7 and it works just fine. Any suggestions on getting it to adjust properly on XP (everything else works, but not BCLK) ??

You need ROG connect plus installed on the xp machine and of course the intel management driver.

i hae rog connect plus. like i said, everything else (voltages, CPU multiplier, fan speeds, sensors, etc.) works fine except for BCLK

Quick testing of my new CPU . It can do a bit better but i only had 2 liters of LN2 to test it . No tweaks applied ...

I have compatibility issues with my keyboard (Logitech Illuminated) .Bios recognize it as 1 keyboard & 1 mouse and i can't enter bios while having attached any boot devices . I have to remove the drives , so it will enter BIOS by itself and after changing settings i plug hdd again and restart .
Other than that , it seems pretty solid . I have to test 32m performance as till now i get slower performance than gene-v .
Me 2 :D
Just that darn IMC on that CPU was coldbugged / not liking 1296 :(

I have some cold bug issues with that board with a tested cpu at gene with no problems benching full pot -190.
With formula I have cold bug at -145 trying any possible setting with no difference. I think that is IMC related problem because I get post code 55 and after post code 00 and lower temps everything is ok.
I have also tried bios 221 and 502 but nothing has change.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
i am getting this exact same problem with a new chip i started testing out tonight! yesterday was benching different chip full pot and no problems. This new chip CB at -145 ~ -150. Tried setting vref to .505-.510 like shammy suggested. Tried setting receiver and transmitter slews to 3 and 2 like shammy said. still CB at -145 ~ -150.
I am using the latest bios, going to try 0502 now.
michael_rw
07-25-2012, 03:51 AM
no luck with 0502. CB at ~ -145c, freeze in OS, then POST code 55 on reboot, then POST code 00 on every reboot after that until it warms up to about -120c
this chip had no CB on UD5H board. I will reseat the chip tomorrow and see if it goes away. If not, I will try it in UD5H again...
*** ALSO: is there a time limit for how long to keep the board greased up with vaseline?? The board has had vaseline all over it for 1 week.. should i wash it all off and clean it, then reapply new vaseline?? or is it ok still?
Raja@ASUS
07-25-2012, 06:14 AM
Vaseline should be fine. You can touch up any parts where components have become exposed due to handling etc.
michael_rw
07-25-2012, 11:27 AM
if my chip coldbugs at -145 and goes to POST code 55, I assume the CB is because of the IMC..
If that's the case, is it possible there is a specific vccsa or vccio voltage that will get rid of the CB?
I've tried one low, one middle, and one really high voltage for both vccsa and vccio and none have had any effect on the CB... maybe there is some other voltage in between those that will get rid of the CB??

ok i just popped in my other chip, the same chip that did this on full pot 2 days ago on this same board.
http://hwbot.org/image/819240.jpg (http://hwbot.org/image/819240.jpg)
now this chip has CB at -145, on the same M5F board. 2 days ago, no CB. Today, CB.
BOTH chips now have CB at -145c
what the heck is going on?
michael_rw
07-26-2012, 01:25 AM
Threw one of the chips back into the UD5H and no CB
However, i found a noticeable amount of vaseline that made its way into the socket on the M5F so i removed all the vaseline with heat gun and washed board in dish washer.
im hoping everything will be back to normal, no more CB. Will test again tomorrow after the board is dry.

Seem to be having some problems with my formula, stability completely goes out the window above 1.75v and the best seems to be around 1.69v. Tried multiple cpus that I know scale with the higher volts, multiple mounts and just about everything else I can think of.
Happens regardless of temperature, even full pot and with both F1 Gemini and LN2Cooling.com containers.
Any ideas on what I could be doing to cause this? I can't seem to find anything that's changed and I know it used to be fine up to ~2.0v
Board is insulated with vaseline and paper towel, thinking maybe I'll clean it off and try again

http://www.mediafire.com/?z8o2jb7jtzvtnit
Updates Performance table
Adds IGPU Disable option in SA
Adds 'Ignore' option under BCLK Recovery , Ignore = Disabled + BIOS ignores to resume BCLK to BIOS setting during resets so that BCLK adjustments with OCKEY/TurboV does not trigger a full reset @ resets.

Sometimes I have troubles detecting my PSC Chip Memory (Corsair GTX1 and GSKILL RipJaws) I just get 55 with both sticks, can boot with just one Stick the other stick seems to be death.
I plug in some Samsung 2x4G work a while with them and then both PSC will work again... strange thing.
On MVE and MVG it runs just fine so I think it must be something on BIOS side.
Updates for MVF are also realy rare compared to the other ROG Z77 Board.. a shame

Hey guys,
I haven't used my M5F for 2 months and now when I tried to fire it up it gives me a POST code 76. Last time it was working fine - it was for the XS low clock challenge. CPU was on water and RAM on air. Then I put it aside.
What I tried:
- 1 stick RAM in all slots, different modules with different ICs
- no ram installed at all
- bios flashback with 0804 and 0095 from a USB stick (renamed to M5F.CAP, hold ROG connect button for some seconds, then release when it starts to blink)
- reseat cpu
- GO button
I don't have another cpu to test, but there are no bent pins in the socket and cpu should be in tact.
Measured voltages with DMM and they are all fine.
What should I do?
is there a BIOS for M5F that properly supports Celeron G1610?
With 0095 and 0701 I can set anything but system will continue running at stock, with 1408 and 1602 not all memory multipliers are available

you sure the cpu is still alive?
you can try ln2 mode Enabled to see if higher boot up voltage would help it revive.

If that's not a brand new CPU then what Shammy says makes sense.
If it is brand new and has not ever been OC'd, then maybe some weird ME or memory problem.
