View Full Version : E760 + Xeon X5667 = bclock wall at ~ 215-220???

Anybody played with these yet?
I did the hard mods, and got my X5667 working. Max multi is x25 with Turbo...so I need bclocks....but I've got a soft wall between 215 and 220MHz....can't figure it out....
I've got about 8L of LN2 left right now ;)

The CPU is not even breathing hard yet at 5.3GHz with only 1.5V :(
I gotta get this bclock up....I've tried VTT/QPI between 1.4V and 1.55V (anything more fails to post)...but they are all stopping at 215MHz or so....

you're prolly at 2:8 - tried RTLs, ioh vcore/qpipll volts yet?

Yeah...thanks for the reply Peter.
I think this board might not be up to it (I just got it back from RMA). Tried 2:6 and 2:8...mem's not up for 2:10 at those bclocks.
tried:
IOH v ~ 1.25-1.35
QPIPLL ~ 1.25
I'm testing again now with a known good i7 920 (on air)...and hitting the exact same bclock limit...which is really summing this up for me, I think it's the board :(

do bear in mind that your 920 on air may just do 222 like many others on air till they go ln2.

No...it's stopping at 215MHz or so...same as the Xeon yesterday :(
I've got a UD7 here, so I'll test on that later and let you know. If so, do you think it's grounds for another RMA Peter?

i dunno man rma is a sticky issue i usually try not to get involved with

:D I understand completely :D
No worries bro. I'm picking up an i7 980X next week...I could care less about bclocks for that, so maybe I'll see how this board does with that.
Oh, BTW - I just stuck the 920 in the UD7 and it booted at 220 no problem...

I had one like that and in a few month -> dead... Mine was E759.
After 215MHz was bsod and no boot up.

thanks quake....were you pushing hard, or running it for 24/7 ops?

On air I could ran it on 242 BCLK. Put on ln2, couldn't do above 215MHz. Put it back to air, the same situation.
I isolate it pretty good, you could ran it under water :D and on the other hand, it was like 5-10 minutes on ln2 cause of that problem, so condensation isn't reason for death

I was asking because I'm wondering if I should consider selling it to someone wanting it for a 24/7 system without causing myself a guilty conscience. If it does OK with my 980X, I'll probably keep it though :)

Alright, I've had a couple of chances to play with the UD7 now, and the first time, I was able to get up to 226MHz bclock pretty easy, 224MHz was wPrime 1024M stable. But the switch to 227 with Easy Tune resulted in hard lock.
Tonight, I gave it another shot, played with voltages a bit more, and pre-tested with lower CPU speeds...got the board up to 232MHz, but wPrime 32M wouldn't run at more than 230MHz.
Back to the subject of the E760...I'll give it another go tomorrow. Now that I've got a better feel for this chip, maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow. Any last minute tips?

I think its probably a board issue. I just got an rma back it died within 10 minute of firing the board up... I would try to get another board.

I'll give it one more shot today....we'll see.

Try QPI Signal Compensation = Less

Welll....I give up with this combo...still ran into the same issues today :( I'll give it another go when my unlocked hex gets in. If it fails there as well, I guess I'll move on. Thanks for the suggestions guys, but it's the board.

Failed to post the other day, and today when I tried this :headshake:
