Hi guys, I need an ocp mod for gtx 280. The controller is volterra 1165MF. I´ve been looking at other cards with the same controller and 53D(right uper corner of the controller) in the picture seems to be the resistor to solder across? I read 236k over the resistor. Tin or anyone else, do you have any info on this?

So you know same as us. Do it, man, and report.
I would not bother it anyway unless you running LN2

ok, here is my plan, I will desolder it and put a 500k vr between the pads. that way I can both increase and decrease the value. And yes, im running LN2;)
Bad plan. If you short VR you may burn card. When you adjust VR its making noise (because resistor layer is not ideal flat, it have bumps, and roller jumps on them, so resistance ripples).
Use fixed resistors, e.g. 100k or 50k on parallel.

point taken, but, if I only adjust the pot when card is powered down and measure resistance before firing up I should be fine I think:)

Yeah fixed are res are always better. Burred edge in some metal film types vibrates as current is passed also. I use welwyn 0.1% laser cut, better still are bulk foil where noise is very very critical (clock circuits), you can get up to 10db noise cut with a good res.

well, I followed my bad idea and did the mod with a trimmer, card is still alive and kickin. No signs of ocp yet so cant really tell you if its working or not. Its looks to be a poor clocker, cant do more than 1000MHz core.

maybe you are using too much voltage?

You need the right bios for this card to get it really cold otherwise it will bug in the 70s. At those temps 1.35 should be more than enough to max the card out

And which bios is the right one?
Btw: If you google for "voltera ocp mod", you will find a XS Thread with an modification for an GTX260 posted from massman. This mod also works on GTX280 ;)
