Hi. I've been working on my 5870 today with the basic volt mods. But I've seen a lot more hardcore mods from Andre and other people.. The card have been running 1100/1300 at air, so I'm hoping for a good result for this card under Ln2.
So I'm wondering if anyone have some tips.. I've heard the Samsung memory chips can be fragile, how much will you gain of a Vmem volt mod? And what is the upper volt limit for these chips? Just give me some tips, I'll solder them. Here is what I've done so far. 470UF 6.3v caps on both side, OCP fix(used 18k fixed VR) and GPU Vcore boost (missing the 50 Ohm VR itself.) ![]() ![]()

I love how nobody has replied...
If I knew more I would help ya out. So far I have basically done the same mods as you. Testing under LN2 tonight... Problem is I have to test it on an EVGA Micro board... so no extra CPU.. Only to test limits of the card... Ill post more when I know what it can do. |

Vmem, Vgpu_vtt, Vmem_vtt might help, but the Vmem soldering spot will be very though unless you're pretty good at soldering, and the others will take some digging time to find them.

Thanks!
Do you have a picture of where the spot is located? I doubt it will be a problem, everything is possible

I don't have a pic, and I do need to check if it's working properly.
I'll post pics of the mods when I get down to work and test them, I don't want to cause any RMAs

No worries BenchZowner. Some people state that the 5870 memory is pretty much allready maxed out around 1300mhz ?
I'd like to add the extra 6pin pcie power, but what kind of gains could I get from it? CrustyClown gave me tip about recapping the memory. It should help the memory under low temps.

can you mod the 6 pin to 8 pin?

Not really ( if there are no traces on the PCB connected to the "dull" 8pin "pins" ) and even if there are traces there, it wouldn't help at all.
Applying some direct 12V to the inductors & input capacitors can help though

Just at extra 6pin (or other power connector to supply extra +12V and GND to videocards +12 and GND pins of stock connector would be good. 8pin differs from usual 6pin only by ONE ground wired, NOTHING more

That is what andre did with his 5870? I can see a few caps that I have not added yet.
