I have a similar problem. My 680gtx will not work in pcie#1 but fine in #2 or #3.

However, my Msi 460 does work normaly in slot #1. I've verified this 3-4 times.

Gotta be something with the slot and 680 pin connection. Also checked and reseated

the cpu 3-4 times. Very hard to fit those 2011 pins against the cpu pads. Some are too close to the pad edges.

I'll try some more experimenting today,,,,don't like loosing the #1 pcie slot at all with this new card.

Just rechecked all the possibilities I can think of, complete power disconnect/ reset(nogo), bios switching, magnified look at the pci-e and cpu pins. No gpu card works in the #1 slot. Dont know volt check info for that slot either.

Apparently not same problem you have. Sorry for thread hijack. Good luck with your issue.

Update > Took the board out for a few days. Removed the latch-down bracket from cpu and put some conformal spray around pci-e traces back to cpu.

The board works perfectly fine now!

Exactly what happened to one of my Rampage III Extreme boards . Some traces were shortcircuiting with the metal enclosure that the cpu socket has.
It seems that ... when applying pressure with the cooler , the metal shim slowly destroys the PCB coating . You just have to put an extra protective layer to prevent this .

Instead of conformal spray , i just put a sticky insulation tape and i got it working again.

Yeah, it's like redoing the varnish top coat.

I do tighten things too much he..he. Get every few degrees of my ss I can.

On other boards I've lost a memory slot but loosen things and give the cold plate a little wiggle and all is good. Seems us OC'ers could use some special attention to that area. I know K|ngp|n looks in to it for evga graphics.
