everyone makes this sound so easy but im a boring graduate student from Florida who studies biology ... most of this is foreign to me most of the time lol. its a process of reading confusing guides and trying to at least learn one thing from each then im happy.. maybe in a few years it will all be crystal clear to me lols

for someine foreign its a step-by-step progress. at least you should own some basic electronic skills.

my first zombie is a complete fail cuz i did not my homework, basic measurements. i just cutted it in half.

my second zombie failed because i had a basic missunderstood something and from this point i did some really bad decision. so i wasnt able to put this zombie back to life. but at least i got the vrm for memory working. and i know what i did wrong.

my 3rd zombie works fine and powers a gf 7300le. it was a vrm from a 7950gx2.

my 4th zombie is in progess. i cutted the asus commando in half and it works. my next step is to make the zombie less big, meaning i go and cut more things away until i think its a useable zombie.

if i completed that i gonna cut a rampage 2 exteme into pices.

btw, it needs way more skills to make a vrm by its own, meaning gatthering components and do layouts for a own-design-pcb.
what we do is more like, putting wrong weels on a car and its still able to drive. the bigger job is building this car.

Talking GTX 680 Lightning Voltage Mod

Mod request #00100
Which hardware do you need to mod? VGA
Hardware model label? MSI GTX 680 Lightning
What do you need? vGPU/vMEM voltage control
Describe you issues Need more mhz on subzero

The card has two controllers of interest:

1.) International Rectifier CHL8318 (probably for vGPU)
2.) UPI uP6262 (maybe for vMEM)

Here are the close-up photos of the front and back of the PCB:

Any help with this would be really great and MUCH APPRECIATED! It would be even better if we could use simple VR mods
Thanks!

i dont know, this is why i asked
i dont understand the data sheets lol

So for vGPU, add VR to pin 4 ?? Those pins are REALLY small! If I follow trace from pin4, can i put VR on the resistor on the same trace?

what about vMEM?

  • Mod request #0101
  • Which hardware do you need to mod? VGA
  • Hardware model label? EVGA 512-P3-871-AR (Later version 871 with EVGA GTS250 PCB)
  • What do you need? Remove OCP/OVP, get rid -50°C CB/CBB (same across many 9800GTX+, seems to be software/firmware)
  • What VRM controller does your hardware run? GPU: uP6206AK; Mem: UP6161
  • Describe your issues, why you need that mod? Card crashes at exactly -50°C, fully loaded or unloaded. Won't boot until -49°C. When card is set to 1.7V+, crashes almost immediately under load. Voltage drops to almost nothing.
  • What is stock voltage of VRM output / OCP/OVP trip point? Where should I measure for this?

My card is a bit different from most 9800GTX+ cards that I've seen. It has the GPU controller on the front side by the 6-pin power. The mem controller is on the back side towards the bottom (PCI-E side) of the card. It only has one 6-pin power plug.

I've already performed vGPU, vMem, and read points... I just need the rest of the mods to get this thing to fly. My findings with the GPU can be found here. The datasheet for uP6206AK seems to be under some sort of NDA, but the pinout can be found with a little bit of searching.
