Peter had sent me a board with Vaseline on it before and told me I didn't need to insulate it for LN2. I didn't like the mess so I cleaned it and used eraser.
Well I got tired of fooling with the eraser and decided to go back to the "Chicken Man" style of insulation. I got a tube of jelly and squirted it on and then used the brush and hair dryer to spread it. After four hours of none stop LN2 benching I had not one hick-up. I am looking forward to many more happy hours of trouble free. BTW - I kept bugging Lardy and asking him how he put the Vaseline on the board and he said he use a brush like when you put BBQ sauce on the chicken. Lardy is so funny. after I melted the jelly you can't even see it, but it there. I put down a 1/8" thick piece of armaflex and added more jelly. BBQ brush After the Vaseline I used 1/2" armaflex and then paper towels. |

So messy, I couldn't bring myself to do that to a board
Good to hear it worked for you though, that is all that matters.

The one thing that has always concerned my little premature engineering mind is the concept of DE grease plausibly creating parasitic capacitance at the CPU pins, especially with such enormous power dissipation and transience at the CPU.
I just simply don't know enough to eliminate that as possible or potentially harmful. |

Anyone ever use liquid electrical tape as a first layer? I used it on my REX and it worked beautifully. Wipe on a few thick layers then put down eraser and foam. It cleans up really easy (usually peels off in a few big pieces). Only takes 5 mins to dry so its quick setup. It totally water proof also and didnt crack or become brittle under cold.

Yah, it was my "Getting feet wet" party with sub-zero a lil while back. I moved over to electric tape spray, much better!

Is there a way to get the vaseline off afterwards?
And wouldnt it be better to put a thin layer of eraser on after the initial layer of vaseline? |

Eraser won't stick down very well with vaseline on the board.
