it's going about the bios versions that westmere doesn't work, and with Gulftown it does momentairly.

everything is Nehalem yes.

But now i try to make a difference for explain that westmere doesn't work at this moment on Classified's mobo's.

Westmere is the umbrella name of the 32nm tick process just like Nehalem was the umbrella name for 45nm tock.

Bloomfield and Lynnfield were both "Nehalem" just like Gulftown and Westmere-EP are both "Westmere".

Do you see the difference?
both Gulftown, westmere is just the Xeon version.

just like you have i7 920 and a W3540 (Xeon version)
i7 975 and a X3580 (Xeon version).

The reason a certain CPU doesn't work in the classified is not because it's a Westmere (which includes Gulftown), but because the Westmere-EP micro codes haven't been added to a new BIOS yet.

If Westmere (in the form of Gulftown) works, then there's no reason why Westmere (in the form of Westmere-EP) won't work in the future.

but what i was trying to say
not every thing is nehelem only the
i7 / xeon
920 /x3540
940 /x35xx
950 /x35xx
975 /x35xx
is nehelem build tek and cpu code name bloomfield
nehelem is what intel calls the 45nm build process

the new 32mn chips are going under the new process name westmere

just trying to show you the way it works

as rich said tick/tock

tick = new processor
tock = die shrink

:build name: nm spec : cpu codename :
nehalem = 45nm - (bloomfield) i7 (tick)
westmere = 32nm - (gulftown) i7 or i9 (tock)

that in the future maybe westmere also works on classified. (microcoed)

but for now they are not supported.

im not on about the bios im merlly saying the way you see the cpu layout is wrong

westmere is 32nm if the chip is 32mn and its here now and its x58 its a gulftown
as before it was
nehelem is 45nm if the chip is 45nm and its x58 its a bloomfield

Substitute Westmere for Westmere-EP in all these and you're right.

This is wrong, they're not all Gulftown.

They're all Westmere, and Westmere-EP is the xeon version.

I'm making a point of this because by calling it Westmere, you might be confusing people into thinking Gulftown isn't supported, which as you know, it is.

Anyways, apart from calling it Westmere-EP you're right so I think that should be the end of it and back on-topic for the thread.
