Is that a Retail ivy? ie final product? How much improvement in thermals did you notice by using a different paste? How much improvement in clocks? Did you try abandoning the IHS completely and seating a cpu heatsink directly on it? thanks |

this is not new! sandy Bridge/nehalem is not soldered too! Alle CPUs from Intel few years ago are with TIM, not soldered!

TIM can just as well be Solder OBR. Thermal Interface Material does not exclusively mean paste. Solder is a thermal interface material between the die and IHS. Here is a de-lidded, soldered 2500K. (Initial post, request for pic, post w/ pic.)
